Tim Portas

Tim graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 1996. He spent a few years in mixed veterinary practice before starting at Werribee Open Range Zoo as their first full time veterinarian. Tim left WORZ in early 2002 and worked as a locum in a number of zoos including Taronga and Healesville Sanctuary for several months before taking up a veterinary position at Western Plains Zoo.

Earlier this year Tim moved to the Australian Wildlife Hospital at Beerwah where he manages the veterinary services to Australia Zoo and does occasional work with wildlife admissions.

Tim gained membership to the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists by examination in the field of zoo animal medicine in 2001. His job has provided him with numerous opportunities to work with free-ranging wildlife both here in Australia and internationally including Tasmanian Devils and Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombats.

Tim has a particular interest in macropod diseases.
